Statewide Day of Action: DREAM Class of 2007
Students will hold a mock graduation to urge US senators to pass the Federal DREAM Act
What: Mock graduation ceremony and press conference as a demonstrative ask for support from Congress to re-consider viable immigration reform that includes passage of the Federal DREAM Act.
When: Wednesday, November 7, 2007 3:00 pm
Where: 7th & Flower Street (Downtown Los Angeles)
Who:
- High school, college, and university students
- The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA)
- Labor unions and other immigrant rights organizations
Why:
The DREAM Act would enable and motivate more than 65,000 undocumented students who graduate each year to attend an institution of higher education and get on a path towards citizenship. Although Congress failed to prioritize talented immigrant students by voting down the DREAM Act, Students across the country continue to mobilize declaring that their dreams cannot wait another year. On Wednesday, students eager to fulfill their potential and contribute to the country they know as their home, will demonstrate both their willingness to achieve, and their frustration in Congress' inability to have moved the DREAM Act forward.
Visuals: Students will wear caps & gowns while holding signs that feature such slogans as "Now What?"
