ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
The Korean Resource Center was founded in 1983 to empower immigrants and communities of color, particularly Korean Americans, through education, advocacy and grassroots organizing. It has also been a space for dialogue on questions of identity, representation and appropriate political systems & structures as much as it was for actual activist training, education and community base building. Events such as the Los Angeles Civil Unrest of 1992 and the anti-immigrant wave starting with Proposition 187 during the mid 1990s steered the organization’s course to focus on educating and organizing Korean Americans on major civil rights and immigrant rights issues.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Each intern may work in one of the following project areas:
1.Civic Participation Intern: analysis of southern California’s census data and voters’ geodata. Creation of a sustainable statistical and geographic research & data storage system. Publication of education materials. Coordination of election volunteers.
2.Health Access Intern: documentation (using video equipment) of language access infringement cases, support for services provided.
3.Immigrant Rights Intern: support for access to public education campaign, dream postcard campaign coordination.
4.Development Intern: publish membership drive materials and support membership drive planning. Investigate and report on possible improvements in infrastructure.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) internship. Room, board and a small stipend will be provided.

QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to social justice; agreement with KRC’s organizing model which combines social services and advocacy. Language abilities and familiarity with census & statistical analysis and geodata analysis a plus.
