It's been shown that the AB 540 law, which allows illegal status immigrant students in California to receive resident tuition discount exemptions like permanent residents do, is not being properly enforced in certain colleges and that immigrant students are resulting in disadvantage as a result.
KRC and NAKASEC announced on the 20th that 300 immigrant students who qualify for AB540 were denied in-state tuition from UCSD last year, and that some colleges, such as Golden West, Ventura, Cypress Community Colleges are denying admissions to illegal status students.
KRC said "Most are students who entered the country legally but then became illegal; these students also qualify for the AB540" and committed itself to continuing with a campaign to fix this situation.
Coordinator Morna Ha said "please tell us your denial cases and we'll help with the assistance of LAFLA and NILC"
