On July 20, Victoria Arellano, a Latina Transgender woman who was living with HIV died after being denied medical attention at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in San Pedro. According to a report in LA OPINION, medical attention to Victoria came too late and only after her cell-mates organized a protest and demanded she receive medical care. Her requests for help were ignored by detention center employees for two months. The negligence exhibited by Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities allowed a transgender Latina immigrant to die, when providing her with basic medical services could have saved her life.
