Dear Religious and Community Organization Leaders,
please join us in a rally next Wednesday, June 6th at 12pm in front of Senator Dianne Feinstein's Office demanding family unity and broad & accessible legalization as part of a humane immigration reform legislation.
As reported in the media, the Senate is discussing an immigration bill that in essence eliminates family invitations, and demands extremely high fees and a return to the country of origin to undocumented immigrants seeking legalization. The bill is expected to be put to a vote between June 4th and June 8th of next week.
This bill would eliminate preference categories for siblings and adult children, and severely cut the numbers for parents. This would effectively cut the main avenue of Korean immigration over the past century, preventing our community’s growth.
Our seniors will suffer the most as a result of elimination of family immigration, because they will not be able to join their beloved family members. We are having a rally in front of Senator Feinstein's Office at Santa Monica on June 6th at 12pm to demand family unity and broad legalization of the undocumented as part of a humane immigration reform package.
Our seniors have gone at great lengths to bring up the children, and have made many sacrifices to build our society. They do have the right to live together with their lovely children, grandchildren and siblings. This previous right ought not to be taken away as part of a deal. Ignoring the will of our seniors to be together with their families destroys the will to live on for millions of seniors, and separates them for a lifetime from their family members.
I thank you for joining us this day for immigrant rights. Please help us get the word out to urge participation in this rally. If you happen to not have signed the petition to the letter being sent to Feinstein, please fill out the form below and send it to KRC (Fax: 323-937-3718, yk [at] krcla.org)
