Night of 1,000 Conversations: Restoring Due Process to Our Immigration System

Night of 1,000 Conversations : Restoring Due Process to Our Immigration System
Sign-Up Form

On Thursday, April 5, 2007, thousands of people all across the country will come together in living rooms, basements, back yards, community centers, schools, and places of worship to work towards immigration reform that restores basic civil liberties and human rights, protects our core American values of fairness and justice, and defends due process for everyone.

The Korean Resource Center and the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium is inviting you to be a host for one of these conversations. We hope for participants to share their stories, how the story or incident affects them personally, the values that are demonstrated or violated in the stories, and the values they would like to guide immigration reform.

These conversations are important because by April, Congress will have a bill for comprehensive immigration reform either in their committees or even being debated on the floor. With the concrete proposals in hand, we will know exactly what we are facing. This is when the window is open to influence the final decisions. April 5 is also during Congressional recess, when lawmakers are at home with us. This action is an opportunity to reflect on our core values, compare them to our current immigration system, and come together to bring our laws back in line with those values.

We ask that as a host for a conversation, you will provide a space for the conversation to occur; invite 10-15 friends, neighbors, colleagues, and/or other community members to take part; make follow-up phone calls to each person you invite; provide light refreshments; facilitate the conversation; attend a one-hour training session to prepare for the event; and submit a brief report back form so that you can tell us how your conversation went.

If you are interested in hosting a conversation as part of the Night of 1,000 Conversations, please complete the sign-up form (click for link) and mail or drop off the completed form by Tuesday, March 27, 2007 to:
