The Kim Sangdon Exhibit is an essay film deconstructed from an autobiographical archive of Kim Sangdon, the first elected Mayor of Seoul after the 4.19.60 April Revolution in South Korea. He struggled to restore democracy in South Korea and later organized protests through America. Following the journey of Kim Sangdon, we reflect on the past 50 years of activism and organizing in Asian America and immigrant communities till today, specifically in the causes of immigrant rights, health, civic engagement, art, and more. What have we learned from the leaders before us and how do we follow in their footsteps in movements we believe in? Joined by organizers who are active in various causes, we will discuss the inspiration they draw from past leaders and how they will strategize for equality and justice in today’s political climate.
