Building Bridges - National AAPI DACA Video Tour

Building Bridges - National AAPI DACA Video Tour is a national communication campaign to educate AAPI communities on the pains of family separation as well as dreams and hopes of undocumented immigrant youth through the screening of two documentaries followed by community discussions. Two documentaries featuring personal stories of undocumented immigrants and DACA recipients will be shown: Dream Riders Across America and Halmoni (Grandmother). The National AAPI DACA Video Tour is initiated by NAKASEC, KRC, and KRCC.

In November 2014, President Obama announced several executive actions to provide relief to undocumented community members, including the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) programs. In 2015, Congress and various states have expressed anti-immigrant sentiment and filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration for announcing these new executive actions. On January 19, 2016, the Supreme Court decided to review the DAPA and expanded DACA case. Given this critical time, it is important to educate the community about the importance of the DAPA and DACA programs by highlighting real stories and sharing the hopes and dreams of undocumented youth and families.

The immigrant rights movement has been steadfast in mobilizing support, but more voices are needed, especially from the AAPI community and from regions with emerging and significant immigrant populations. We are the crest of an important political and legislative moment and the time is now for immigrant communities to come together and protect the relief that we have rightfully won and stand for keeping families together and a clear and accessible roadmap to citizenship for immigrants.
