Students and Communities in Southern California Applaud the Introduction of DREAM Act

WHAT: Press conference to announce the introduction of DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act, bi-partisan legislation that if passed, would provide undocumented students a chance to pursue higher education and obtain legal status. A call-in action will be announced at the press conference.

WHO: Immigrant rights and advocacy groups in Southern California who have been leading the movement for student legalization and access to education. They are: Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), Korean Resource Center (KRC), National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC), Orange County Dream Team (OCDT), and others.

WHY: There are 1.7 million undocumented children and youth in the U.S., including 65,000 students who graduate high school every year. It is estimated that 40% of all undocumented students live in California. DREAM Act allows them to reach their full potential and build a bright future, contribute back to society, and become full civic participants.
