Korean American New Orleans Solidarity Trip

Dear NAKASEC and KRC Friends,

NAKASEC and the Korean Resource Center has been presented with an important opportunity to work with and learn from the African American and immigrant communities impacted by the devastating Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Youth and staff from Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York will travel to New Orleans to receive training and assist in rebuilding efforts with long-time civil rights activists and organizers in the area. We need your help to make our trip a success. To help you can:

Our visit will take place over 5 intensive days from June 19 to June 23. Staff and youth will experience both classroom and hands on organizing training. They will emerge from this trip with a better understanding of what happened in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region, racism in the United States, the struggles of immigrant communities during times of natural disaster, and organizing theory and practice.

Other Ways You Can Get Involved:

  1. SEND A LETTER AND CALL YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS to stop unfair and discriminatory proposal that will harm the children and families in New Orleans East, a mostly Vietnamese and low-income community. Visit http://www.saveneworleanseast.org/pages/help.htm for more information.
  2. COORDINATE YOUR OWN TRIP. Contact the People's Organizing Committee office and ask for the Summer Project Volunteer Coordinator (888-310-7473) or visit www.peoplesorganizing.org
