Winter/Spring 2013 Internship Available: Apply Today!

The Korean Resource Center is seeking an intern for the Winter/Spring of 2013 in the area of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Rights.

This internship position is for college students, recent college graduates, or high-school graduates with two or more years of work experience after high school. This is a part-time position (20 hours/week) from January to May 2013. Work-hours are flexible.

The intern will work out of KRC's office in Los Angeles, CA, alongside KRC staff. The intern will be coordinated by Dayne Lee, Civic Engagement Coordinator, and will assist with KRC's Civic Engagement and Immigrant Rights program areas.

Internship Responsibilities
The intern will assist with KRC's Civic Engagement Campaigns as well as assist on other campaigns such as Immigrant Rights. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning about KRC grassroots organizing strategies and techniques.
  • Registering Voters
  • Outreaching to prospective voters via phonebanking, workshops, and doorknocking.
  • Translating press releases and educational materials from English to Korean and Korean to English.
  • Assisting KRC staff with workshops, events, press conferences, rallies, and legislative events.
  • Working with KRC volunteers and organizing members.
  • Providing research support for KRC staff.
  • Intern may be asked to assist with other program areas.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Commitment to civil rights, immigrant rights, social justice, and change through grassroots community organizing
  • Interest in working with a community-based non-profit organization.
  • Familiarity with Korean American, Asian American Pacific Islander, or immigrant community issues, or experience working or volunteering in electoral campaigns or immigrant rights campaigns.
  • Must either be a college student, recent college graduate, or be over 18 years old with 2 years of work in any field after high school.
  • Korean and English bilingual fluency required. Applicant must be able to translate basic materials from English to Korean via writing.

Timeline

  • Application Deadline: Tuesday January 22, 2013.
  • Selected Applicants will be chosen to interview in person or via Skype.
  • Internship will begin as soon as applicant is available to start and end at the end of May. Start and end dates are flexible.
  • Internship hours will be set between the applicant and KRC coordinator. A minimum of 20 hours/week is preferred, but this is flexible. KRC will be open Monday to Friday from 9:00-5:00pm, but internship hours in the evening (weekdays 5:00pm-8:00pm) or weekends may be available.

Compensation:
KRC can provide a small transportation stipend. In addition, KRC can work with your school to arrange college credit. KRC provides lunch for interns at no cost.
