This 8-Channel video installation is an essay film deconstructed from an autobiographical archive of Kim Sangdon created by Duke Choi. The installation allows public access to uproot a suppressed narrative of social justice spanning from his early years between 1919 and until his death in 1986. Kim Sangdon is known as the first elected Seoul Mayor after the 4.19.60 April Revolution and was jailed during the 5.16.61 coup d'état. Through self-exile, he struggled to restore democracy in South Korea and later organized protests throughout American cities. This exhibit is curated by the Korean Resource Center, a nonprofit that seeks to empower low-income, immigrants, and people of color communities. Open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm; 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm.

CPEHN applauds the agreement announced late last night to fully restore adult dental benefits in the Medi-Cal program. Since 2009, Medi-Cal beneficiaries have gone without critical services, including partial dentures, root canals on back teeth and molars, and gum treatments. This has led to tooth decay, unnecessary extractions, job loss, and decreased quality of life for vulnerable seniors and low-income Californians.
In this episode of the Dream Podcast, we invited artist Duke Choi, whose video exhibit on the life of democracy activist Kim Sangdon is currently on display at KRC, to discuss the exhibit, memory and place, and tidbits of modern Korean history.

A Korean American group in Los Angeles and volunteer developers have created a multilingual smartphone app for immigrants who are worried about deportation and are stopped by authorities. The app called "Know your Rights" provides immigrants with a list of their basic legal rights in five languages: Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and English. Immigrants can refer to the list to assert their rights when detained by immigration agents or stopped by police.
