민족학교의 교육활동은 민족교육과 시민사회교육으로 나누어 진행했었습니다. 민족교육활동으로는 2세 초등학생을 대상으로 매주 토요일 운영되는 뿌리학교, 청년대상 민족사 교육, 성인대상 우리말 교육, 청소년 방과후교실을 열었으며, 시민사회교육으로 타 소수민족사, 유권자 교육프로젝트, 컴퓨터 교실, 보건의료 등 이민자들에게 필요한 교육을 진행헸습니다. 또한 캘리포니아주 보건/복지국과 연방환경청의 후원으로 한인들의 건강을 위한 오염생선 홍보 및 교육, 그리고 환경정의를 위한 커뮤니티 교육 활동을 펼쳤습니다.
매년 여름에는 청소년들을 위해 여름 청소년 프로젝트를 운영하여 청소년들에게 재미동포이민사, 조국근대사, 그리고 동포사회와 관련된 여러 사회이슈들에 대해 교육하고 토론하는 장을 제공했습니다.
Past Programs
- KRC’s Saturday Roots Program offered young grade school students the opportunity to learn more about their Koran cultural heritage and develop their English language skills since 1998. Tailored for the youth of Koreatown, this program sought to strengthen their sense of identity as Korean Americans.
- The Summer Youth Empowerment Project helped young Korean Americans gain a better understanding of the Korean American communities and other social and economic issues that affect the community. KRC also provided a library with over 3,500 books, magazines, and audio-visual materials available to the public.
- KRC was a community partner to implement the Fish Contamination Education Collaborative project, supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Department of Health Services. This project seeks to address the human health risks caused by the consumption of contaminated fish as well as to increase the community awareness on environment justice issues.
