[6/19/17 UPDATE] We are sorry to inform you that this affordable housing project has been cancelled. We hope to support future affordable housing projects in the San Gabriel Valley.
Nonprofit Mercy Housing has proposed to transform The Golden Motel at 6343/6353 Rosemead Blvd, San Gabriel, CA into affordable housing for formerly homeless individuals and veterans. Click here for more information. Unfortunately, the project faces fierce opposition from San Gabriel Valley residents, but there are still actions LA County residents can take to support the project.
We call you to:
- Attend the LA County hearing held by the Regional Planning Commission of the County of Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 21st at 9:00 and show your support. Facebook users can RSVP here. Address: 320 West Temple Street Los Angeles, California 90012, Room 150
- Sign this petition of support.
- Email and call LA County staff in charge of the project.

Subject: Support Project #2016-000612-(5)
Dear [Ms. Bush / Supervisor Barger/ Ms. Ruiz],
I’m writing to urge you to support the Golden Motel Redevelopment project at 6343/6353 Rosemead Blvd. As an LA County resident, I believe this project would greatly assist low-income families and veterans while improving our community.
This project will alleviate their financial struggles and burden, making a difference between instability and opportunity for the potential tenants. Affordable housing is a sustainable solution, which will help break the cycle of homelessness for many.
Unfortunately, there is misinformation being spread in the San Gabriel Valley on the project including the following: believing (1) it is a homeless shelter, (2) it will increase crime rates and (3) it will decrease property value - all concerns that can easily be debunked with years of research and studies. Housing need is all around us and not a single US county has enough affordable housing. I am deeply concerned about this issue and I urge support for the project now. Thank you!
Best wishes,
[Your Name]
