FOREground was made to empower young people to become organizers within their own community. Each Wednesday for 8 weeks, we break bread with youth of color and discuss social issues within our community. Throughout the program, youth were taught about privilege, race, immigration, allyship, and their own identity. Over 10 FOREground participants went to Sacramento to advocate for immigrant policies and 12 FOREground students have applied for our 6-month internship.
FOREground ended on May 8th, 2019 with 21 participants in our last session and 30 participants in the whole program. This program allowed students a safe space to advocate for progressive ideas and fight for not only for self-interest, but the communities near to them.
